1. Badminton is a sport played between two teams of two players each. Each player uses a shuttlecock (a small ball) to hit the opponent's shuttlecocks back over the net. If the shuttlecock hits the ground before reaching the opponent's' side of the court, then the team who sent the shuttlecock loses.
2. A badminton match consists of three sets of singles matches, doubles matches, and mixed doubles matches. In each set, the first player serves, followed by his/her partner. After both players have served, they switch sides.
3. There are four types of strokes in badminton: serve, return, smash, and lob. Serve is where the server sends the shuttlecock towards the opponent's side of the court. Return is where the server returns the shuttlecock to their own side of the court. Smash is where the server smashes the shuttlecock at the opponent's side of court. Lob is where the server throws the shuttlecock at the opponent's' side of court.
4. The game of badminton was invented in China around 500 BC. The Chinese believed that if they could control the wind, they would win many battles. To do this, they created a type of racket called a badminton racquet.
5. The first recorded international tournament took place in England in 1842. The winner received a silver cup.
6. The International Badminton Federation (IBF) was founded in London in 1900.
7. The first Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896. Badminton was not included in these games.
8. The first world championship was held in England in 1930.
9. The first World Championships were held in Japan in 1938.
10. The first Asian Games were held in New Delhi in 1951.
11. The first African Games were held in Ghana in 1965.
12. The first Pan American Games were held in Mexico City in 1971.
13. The first European Games were held in Denmark in 1974.
14. The first South American Games were held in Brazil in 1975.
